Season 1, Episode 1
At a young age, Sam and Dean Winchester witness the unexplainable death of their mother, which in turn leads their father embark upon a life with the boys of hunting supernatural evil. Years later, Sam has escaped that world by attending college, but is drawn into helping his brother find their missing father. They also investigate the mysterious disappearances of men along a particular stretch of highway, which is being haunted by a "Woman in White" (La Llorona). When Sam returns home, he finds his girlfriend being killed in the same supernatural fashion his mother was, and he decides to join Dean to hunt for her killer. - Wikipedia.org

The beginning of the pilot is kind of awkward with all the storytelling Sam does on the staircase.
